Dali’s Moustache

by Jonathan Pinnock

When Salvador Dali
appeared on “What’s My Line?”
he almost fooled them all,

until – running out of time –
they asked if his moustache
was “rather well known.”

So there it was:
a lifetime of art, summed up
in an idiosyncratic choice
of facial hair.

But the truth is,
I’ll probably remember him most
for that myself.

And of course
the lobster handset.

Jonathan Pinnock is the author of loads of odd stuff, including “Mrs Darcy versus the Aliens” (Proxima, 2011) and the short story collection “Dot Dash” (Salt, 2012)
