If only they could see. As I enter the carriage and sit opposite, his hand tenses around hers and she jerks awake, he shifts uneasily. Only our eyes meet. His head turns slightly, his knowing glance transmits, her raised eyebrows receive. A secret code, that is what they believe. He forces a cough. She fidgets with her hem. I crack their silent code. They want me to leave. They cannot trust the lonely eyes they see. My past and present are hidden by cloth. My achievements, my friends, my charity. A rectangular window is not enough to let them see.
Dave Kendrick is studying an online MA in Creative writing at Manchester Metropolitan University. His first novel titled ‘Unleashed’ will be available on the kindle early 2012.

Lots here, brimming in a brief span. Like the idea of the code and how you support it with the verbs. Good stuff.
