The man waiting for a train

A Found Story. By Jessica Patient

“How is she?”

“When did that happen?”

“I can still win her back.”

….

“How did he propose?”

….

“What’s the ring like?”

….

“What a cheap bastard. So that means she isn’t really-”

….

“Their going to the jewelers tomorrow?”

“She’ll dump that loser once she sees me.”

….

“I’m on my way back. This is more important than the conference.”

….

“Make up anything, even invite her to your flat this evening and I’ll be there.”

….

“Ok, ok. Ring me back.”

Like it, Jess – though it took me a few reads to appreciate it, as soon as I got it was a phonecall it all came together – me being slow, I imagine :)

Very unique to use a one-sided phone conversation as a literary device.
